14 Problems with Apple's iPad Leading to Failure

Apple iPad Tablet PC

Apple just revealed the new Apple iPad Tablet that will probably make it one of the first failures by Apple's latest line of products. Apple revealed this new Tablet PC as a challenger to netbooks. However, it's already been labeled a "less powerful, but more expensive netbook." Here are 10 problems that made this Apple iPad an iDisappointment.

#1 No Multitasking

The Apple iPad is just like the iPhone, in that there is no multitasking. You can't work on a document and talk on AIM or Gtalk. In other words, the iPad just a giant iPod Touch (the iPod Touch being better) and cannot match netbooks.

#2 It Has an Awkward Design

The design is a bit awkward because you have to hold it in one hand and balance it while your other hand uses the functionality or more likely you will need to put it on your knees to use it properly. It's like holding a monitor, I'm sure nothing will happen to it.

Some people complain about the Bezel being too large, but perhaps this was necessary so that you don't constantly give commands while moving around.

#3 No Adobe Flash

Were you considering watching Hulu on this? How about youtube (well we'll have to wait for an app for that)? Thinking of playing flash games while waiting on the bus? Oh well.

#4 No USB, Need Adapters

Again with the iPod design, you need to plug in the special Apple adapter. If you lose it, you'll have to buy another. If you want to plug in multiple devices you need USB to iPad adapters! Since it's not even using Mac OS, most USB devices would probably not work anyway.

#5 AT&T Once Again

Are you thinking of purchasing the 3G version? You'll need to get it with AT&T and think of how overloaded their service will be now. There is no Verizon, T-Mobile, or Sprint service available for this product, some of which has better coverage. You can't use T-Mobile's 3G at all because of their MicroSIM made specifically for AT&T.

Apple Tablet iPad Prices

#6 Memory Business Model

Apple will charge you extra for higher memory. It's a business model they use for all their products to increase profits. That's why they don't want other storage devices being inserted to improve memory. You're also stuck with a limit of 64GB, so don't think about putting in all your music, movies, or games.

Apple Tablet iPad Keyboard

#7 Touch Keyboard

Many people were complaining about the touchscreen keyboard. Which would be fine if it worked perfectly and you didn't have to sit it exactly on your lap and make sure it's flat. You can however, attach an Apple keyboard, just another way for Apple to make money.

#8 App Store Again

Just like the iPod Touch you have to download everything from an App store. Meaning if you don't like Safari, you're stuck with it. Some apps may be banned once again.

#9 No Cameras

Yeah no web cams on the front, and no cameras for photos or videos from the back either.

#10 No Removable Battery

You can't just take an extra battery with you on a long trip because the battery works the same way as an iPod (though my bet is, it doesn't last as long).

#11 No HDMI/DVI Output

You can't plug this thing into your TV to display your HD movies. You'd need AppleTV for that.

#12 No Widescreen

16:9 ain't happening, you're stuck with a 4:3 screen.

#13 No GPS

There's no GPS, so --unlike the T-Mobile MyTouch or the Verizon Droid which both run on Android, can multitask and have GPS so that you can use the Beta Google Maps Navigation system for turn-by-turn directions-- you're stuck with locating yourself via WiFi hotspots.

#14 It's Large, Slow, and Clunky

Not only will you have to buy accessories to protect your device, it's very large making it easy to drop and probably won't live a healthy life in a backpack filled with notebooks and other possibly sharp objects. There may be a number of accessories sold by Apple to cover some of these problems.

The iPad max speed is 1GHz (A4 processor) and will probably be just as slow surfing the web as most other smartphones and it won't match up to netbooks. There is no Mac OS X or anything either, it's definitely the iPhone OS except without the Phone capability and of course I'm sure they will ban Google Voice and Skype.

The iPad is about the size of a Kindle, so it is nice for reading e-books I suppose, but then I'm not sure why I wouldn't just buy a Kindle.

As with all companies that initially have much success, they get a little overconfident and launch a product just to create more hype and increase their stock prices.

I think netbooks are here to stay and the iPad will be a bit of an iFail.

Update: Some Apple fans are constantly defending the Apple iPad by comparing it's features to the iPhone. Please stop. The Apple iPad is advertised and hyped as a netbook killer or a tablet PC, yet it doesn't even have a pen so it's not a tablet PC, and it can't perform as well as a netbook so it's not that either. The arguments I presented in this article are reasons why it can't compete with smartphones, Tablet PCs, or netbooks and is therefore a product which consumers will not purchase.

WHAT? AT&T AGAIN? This is

WHAT? AT&T AGAIN? This is really starting to piss me off and I love Apple products.

Ah I was waiting to learn

Ah I was waiting to learn more about this, but now I think I will definitely buy that Netbook I been eyeing.

At least in the iPod Touch,

At least in the iPod Touch, you can browse and hear music, so bad example.

But I agree with the rest.

The battery is 10 hours i

The battery is 10 hours i heard. This thing is perfect for some people like my mum who just uses email, internet, music. Its not supposed to be a direct replacement for laptops and desktops either. Still I would have thought flash would be working on it if they want it to be a success.

you are absolutely right! I

you are absolutely right!
I am just thinking the exactly ways!!
Ipad is such a failure!!
I hope no one wasting their money on it!

The iPad Sucks.

The iPad Sucks.

You are assuming it is

You are assuming it is slow... and have never actually used the device. All people that have actually used it say one thing about it... it is amazingly fast.

and some of your other points given is the same things people say that will make the iPhone fail. I do not think the iPhone is failing..

try again...

1) It's not a full fledged

1) It's not a full fledged computer so who cares? Netbooks when running multiple apps are pretty damn slow
2) Show me any tablet form that isn't awkward.
3) Who cares? Flash is only really important if you want to watch Hulu. Youtube? HTML5 buddy
4) It's a TABLET. Not a laptop of a desktop system. It's not designed to have a bunch of things plugged into it.
5) Other carriers use GSM and the iPad is compatible with them as well. Just different price structure with AT&T. It would be nice if it did CDMA, but considering Verizon is looking at GSM for 4G networks for the future...
6) Um...any company charges you more for more storage space. I fail to see why this is such a shocker
7) You have a tablet setup and you want a keyboard as well? Isn't the point of a tablet to get away from a keyboard? They do have one as an option if you want to stick it on your desk though ;)
8) App store is hit or miss depending on what you want. Can't disagree with you on this one
9) Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't use the camera on my iPhone and taking pictures with a 10" tablet seems pretty ridiculous to me
10) I don't see this as an issue. Yes, an extra one for long trips would be great but you'll be able to purchase an external unit just like the iPhone.
11) Again, this is not a computer or a DVR type unit. This is to fill a gap between a phone sized device and a laptop
12) I sort of see this as an issue if it was a fixed landscape unit, but since it rotates just like the iPhone and iPod Touch 16:9 would be pretty silly looking
13) So what? If you're seriously thinking about using this to walk around a city or drive in your car you should not be allowed out in public
14) I didn't realize you were an expert on the A4 processor! Please enlighten us how it compares to an Intel mobile chipset since your'e in the know? Also, considering it's designed to not run a million apps at once processing speed isn't nearly as important as you make it sound like it needs to be. Something tells me it'll play full video without issue, let me type a document and surf the web pretty easily with it's clunky speed. As for it being clunky? It's a better size than any other tablet I've ever seen released.

Anonymous's picture

@Brad and @Anonymous it is

@Brad and @Anonymous it is slow, the A4 processor is less powerful than Intel Atom processors that are on most notebooks. This is why Apple didn't make it multitasking because it cannot handle it. DUH....

Stop using the same lame argument "same arguments can be applied to iPhone, but iPhone succeeded" --- because that's not what the iPad is competing to be,---it's competing to be a damn netbook not a damn smartphone!!!

Anonymous's picture

Hey anonymous, 1) Netbooks

Hey anonymous,

1) Netbooks are not slow when running multiple apps, they are great. Apple iPad can't do multitasking so why are you even talking???
2) Tablet PCs are not awkward I own a Fujitsu tablet PC, it's nice, it's small, and it does do what it's suppose to: become a tablet with a nice pen too so I can draw!!!
3) Hulu is only one of the websites that use flash. What about flash games? What about megavideo? What about dailymotion? Everyone laughed at Apple during the live presentation when there was a big question mark for a spot where there was flash!!!

4) It doesn't have a pen, so how does it do everything a Tablet PC does? It can't multitask so it can't compete with netbooks. It doesn't have phone capabilities so it can't compete with smart phones... What's the point of buying this??????? Fanboy!!!

5) AT&T is all I gotta say...
6) Yeah, for smartphones, not for a damn computer advertised as a netbook killer...

7) A lack of thinking by Apple, keyboards are an essential part of any computer device, and some people don't like the touchscreen keyboards. Those that do, will still find it troubling cuz you gotta set it on your knees to type.

9) No webcam? No camera pictures? Look at netbooks, many have built-in webcams. Again it's another EXAMPLE why APPLE IPAD CANNOT compete with NETBOOKS! I don't care what you do with your iPhone damn...

10) Yes you may not see an issue, but someone else might.

11) If it's not a computer, then it doesn't rival netbooks, and therefore, there's no point to buy it, unless you're a dumb gullible Apple fanboy or you got bored of the small screen on your ipod touch...

12) Some will see it as an issue though.
13) Another example of why it can't compete with mobile phone devices, and so why should I buy this product??
14) How do you know he isn't an expert? For all you know, he might be a hardware engineer working for intel. Look at all the technical articles in this website then think again... A4 processor is slower than an Intel Atom, I assure you it's not gonna be as fast. This is why it doesn't have multitasking and other features, cuz they take up CPU power.

I don't see the point of

I don't see the point of buying this. Why would you want this instead of a laptop? Laptops are really cheap these days... and can do millions of times more things than these ipads can.
You can't fit an laptop in your pocket, that's why an itouch... as limited as it may be... is possible. And why i have one ;D

But you can't take this thing anywhere you can't take a laptop. Plus a laptop has the added benefit of closing so the screen won't be scratched, a keyboard, usb ports (wireless internet anywhere), flash... etc.

There is absolutely no advantage with this over a touch screen laptop. If you search google shopping, you can find a touch screen laptop on the first page that is cheaper than this tablet.

Mike_'s picture

also, for you who are

also, for you who are complaining about how nobody is complaining about the iphone:
Shouldn't we be annoyed that the item in your pocket does nothing more than a table-top device?

trying to scam people again

trying to scam people again with their china manufacture crop good for them that they failed on this one, instead of giving jobs locally they produce in china and try to shove to the american buyer what a greedy fuckers

Anonymous's picture

I read somewhere (I guess on

I read somewhere (I guess on CNET or gamespot) that it is actually unlocked unlike the iphone. so you can go with the AT&T option or stick anything else into it. and overall I like my ipod touch and might get a 16GB ipad just to read books. also, I think browsing browsing would be more comfortable with it than with a PC and much smoother than using safari on the itouch.

Anonymous's picture

3G version has GPS and Skype

3G version has GPS and Skype must run.

Since Skype for iPhone has not banned, it should work in iPad.
If somebody has $500 for eBook, do you surely believe that he is going to buy Kindle?
Most of your points are good. But, highly biased too.

Anonymous's picture

It's nice to know that you

It's nice to know that you can spend $500 on an iFail JUST to read books. And just HOW do you think surfing will be smoother than using Safari on the iTouch? What do you base that on?thus really would gave been an awesome product THREE YEARS AGO. But the fanboys will flock, and rise will the stock, and we'll get what we really want by the 4th generation.

I really like most Apple products, but personally I hope it fails. Apple needs to get the SMUG slapped off their faces, to remember what it feels like to make a monumental failure again. Newton anyone?

All of you Apple fans keep

All of you Apple fans keep saying none of the things it is missing matter...yet several other companies will be announcing their Tablet PC's shortly and will have none of these shortcomings. So why back it up just because you don't care if it doesn't have it? Other companies WILL have a webcam, WILL multi-task, WILL have 3g/WiFi on one model, WILL have expandable/removable memory, will be able to connect directly to your pc through usb, and WILL have a replaceable battery. So, am I not supposed to be happy about those things? Because according to you none of them matter even though they SHOULD be there. You say every company uses memory caps as a business model...not true. My Droid has removable memory, meaning I don't need to delete stuff when I fill it up. Go F*** yourself Apple. They are the monopoly microsoft was back when they got in trouble, which is why I left MS for Apple but now have to reverse once again.
