NASA Announces Design for New Deep Space Exploration System

NASA has created a brand new design for a heavy-lift launch vehicle. The Space Launch System (SLS) will be designed to carry the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle.

The newest cutting edge technology from the Constellation and Space Shuttle programs will be used for the new system. Flight tests are scheduled to begin in 2017.

This will be the first exploration-class vehicle developed since the Saturn V over 40 years ago.

Here's an artists depiction of the new rocket:

I know right, too bad it's

I know right, too bad it's going to take 6+ years. But I guess it will eventually happen so whatever. I don't know why they haven't been developing such technologies since the 90s.
